Co-founder of Intellex, Socrates is an attorney at law, specially appointed and authorized to represent clients at the European Patent Office (EPO). He is qualified to stand before the Supreme Court. His field of expertise is Information & Communication Technology Law, Insurance Law (including cyber-insurance), and Commercial Law. Socrates began his career in Paris where he was first employed at the legal department of Janssen-Cilag (member of Johnson & Johnson Group) dealing with data protection, pharmaceutical patents and competition issues. He next joined the competition law team of Jeantet & Associés Cabinet d’Avocats.

In Athens he worked as senior associate responsible for the litigation department in well-known law firms before establishing Vertellis & Associates Law Office. Socrates advices on GDPR and information security compliance matters, e-commerce and cloud computing issues. He is appointed as Data Protection Officer at the Hellenic Data Protection Authority by multiple undertakings.

He also offers legal consultation to some of the most famous insurance companies in the Greek market. Socrates’ long-standing experience in litigation includes handling thousands (literally!) of cases and representing various industries before courts of all degrees. As member of the IP Committee of ICC-Greece Socrates strives to promote the need for cybersecurity and the development of cyber insurance in Greece as a means for companies to protect precious, strategic information and mitigate cyber risks.

Qualifications and Education

Socrates is admitted to the Athens Bar Association. After acquiring his bachelor’s degree (LLB) from the University of Athens he studied commercial law at Université Paris X – Nanterre from where he obtained a maîtrise (LLB) mention droit commercial. Later he obtained a DEA (Master of Laws) from Université Paris I – Panthéon Sorbonne with a focus on IP and competition law. He also holds an LLM (Master of Laws) in Technology, Media and Telecommunications Law from Queen Mary University of London.
Socrates is fluent in Greek, English and French.
